Sandkugeln (Jam-filled butter cookies)

Ingredients

Yield: 35 cookies

  • 200g butter or margarine
  • 200g sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar (about 1 tsp)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 packet baking powder (about 1 1/2 tsp)
  • 450g flour
  • 4 Tablespoons Jam (any kind)

Description

Sandkugeln (Jam-filled butter cookies), a classic and traditional German Christmas cookie that is easy to bake.

Preparation

Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Mix butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs, baking powder, and flour until smooth.
  4. Roll into walnut sized balls and place on the sheet with some space between them.
  5. Press a small indentation in each and fill with jam.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes until lightly golden.
