Description
In Serbian households, Paprikaš is the quintessential Sunday family lunch. It is a dish that tastes even better the next day, as the flavors of the garlic, peppers, and meat continue to marry. Whether it’s the “homestyle” version with pork or the “hunter’s” version with game meat, it represents the warmth and hospitality of the Balkan kitchen.
Instructions:
Finely chop the onion, garlic, fresh peppers, and carrot. Sauté the vegetables over medium heat until they become soft, well combined, and slightly thickened.
Add the meat (pork and beef), previously cut into cubes. Cook together with the vegetables for about 10 minutes. Next, add diced potatoes and continue cooking for another 3–5 minutes. Sprinkle in a few tablespoons of flour and mix thoroughly. Pour in enough water to fully cover all the ingredients.
Add the seasonings: Vegeta, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add them gradually, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. After about 10 minutes, add the crushed tomatoes and stir well again. Continue cooking over moderate heat until the meat and potatoes are fully cooked.
Taste occasionally and adjust seasoning as needed.
