Zimtsterne (Cinnamon Stars)

  • 5 egg whites
  • 500g powdered sugar
  • 200g ground almonds
  • 250g ground hazelnuts
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground cloves

Preparation

Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

  1. Preheat oven to 320°F
  2. Beat egg whites until stiff, then gradually beat in powdered sugar. Set aside1/5 of the mixture for glazing.
  3. Fold in nuts and spices and knead into a smooth dough.
  4. Roll the dough between two sheets of plastic wrap using ground nuts to prevent sticking.
  5. Cut out star shapes and place on baking sheet.
  6. Spread glaze on top of each cookie. Bake for about 35 minutes – the cookies should dry rather than brown.
  7. Store in a tin once cooked.
